The approved Building Regulation document P outlines the particular requirements of electrical installations.
Part P sets technical requirements for the correct design, installation and certification of equipment systems and equipment. The Part P document also outlines what electrical work carried out within dwellings is notifiable to your local LABC.
Part P applies to electrical installations within a dwelling - house or flat and covers parts of the installation that are outside (such as lighting, air conditioning, solar PV, ponds and hot tubs)
or in outbuildings (such as sheds, detached garages and domestic greenhouses).
Part P also applies to common areas in flats and shared amenities, it can also apply in some business premises.
The following electrical installations are notifiable under Part P:
The installation of a new circuit, the replacement of a consumer unit (fuse board) and any addition or alteration to an existing circuit in a special location.
Special locations include bathrooms, showers, shower rooms or locations containing a swimming pool or sauna heater.
The replacement, repair and maintenance of existing electrical equipment (such as socket outlets), or installing of fixed equipment (such as a built in cooker or connection of electrical equipment from an existing isolator).
Where any new circuit is needed or an existing circuit requires modification by altered or as an addition it becomes notifiable to LABC.
All notifiable electrical work is notified to your Local Authority Building Control.
The notification is kept on there records as proof work was carried out by a trained, registered & competent electrician.
